The classic WordPress editor has undergone some changes over the years, but nothing compared to the arrival of Gutenberg. What has changed?

First, let's understand a little about the motivations for completely remodeling the editor.

Many platforms now offer much more modern and pleasant experiences for publishing content. For example, Medium, Tumblr, and Ghost are platforms that offer more fluid experiences when it comes to text editing.

Classic Editor
The classic editor has helped a lot of people over the years. For this reason, many were afraid when the arrival of Gutenberg was announced. But the fact is that Gutenberg really does offer a superior experience.

The classic editor looks a lot phone number data  like the Microsoft Word editor. Precisely for this reason, it made some tasks that should have been simple more difficult. For example: try inserting two images, one next to the other, using the classic editor.

Difficult, right? This was just one example, but like this there are several other simple tasks that are very difficult to perform in the old editor.

Despite offering a much faster, easier and more pleasant experience, there are those who still prefer to use the classic editor. New versions of WordPress no longer have this editor and come with Gutenberg already defined as the default editor. If you want to use the classic editor, you need to know two things:

Where to download: You can download and install Classic Editor here .
Support: WordPress will support the use of the classic editor until .
What is Gutenberg?
Gutenberg is the new block-based WordPress editor. Soon after its arrival at the end of , it began to be made available for testing, in the form of a plugin. Anyone using WordPress versions higher than 4.8 could now install and test Gutenberg.

From version 5.0 of WP onwards, Gutenberg became the default editor. The new block-based experience is much more fluid and simple.

And how does this new experience work?
In addition to structuring your posts and pages into blocks, what basically changes is the way WordPress organizes these blocks. Therefore, he started using HTML comments as a way to organize these blocks.

Gutenberg in Visual version
See the example above, the visual version of the editor in blocks and then the code version of that same content. Note that it uses HTML comments to mark the beginning and end of a block.
